The land on which this statement home sits is special to its owners. They’ve lived on the north-facing site that overlooks the Esk Valley for more than a decade. They were even married here. When it came time to upgrade, they decided they didn’t want to live anywhere else. The only complication being that the site wasn’t suitable for a renovation. They decided to start from scratch. The result is their T-shaped dream home – a 275sqm residence with five bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living rooms and glazing that captures land and sea views all the way north to Māhia Peninsula. With a pool and wood-fired oven outside, it’s quite the luxury retreat. Downstairs is the kids’ escape, with four bedrooms, a bathroom and kitchenette looking out to the landscaped pool area. Head upstairs, and this is where the owners have their own open-plan living, generous bedroom, luxurious ensuite and covered decks on both sides. This house is built to stand the test of time: a solid steel portal enclosed with high-quality building materials, such as western red cedar and steel.
